What is a Boilermaker?
Boilermakers build and repair large tanks, boilers, heavy pipe-work, and pressure vessels for nuclear power plants, refineries, and chemical manufacturers. They assemble, erect and maintain boilers, tanks pressure vessels, heat exchangers, calandrias, air pollution control systems, blast furnaces, condensers, water treatment plants & water towers, pen-stocks and scroll casings using hoisting, rigging, welding equipment, tools and hardware as required by drawings, specifications and the applicable codes and standards. Today's field construction boilermaker is a vital part of a construction project team. A boilermaker could be involved in the installation of a giant superheater section in a large utility boiler, the erection of a 750,000-gallon water storage tank, the placement of a nuclear power plant reactor dome, or the construction of components on a hydroelectric power station.
