What is a Cement Mason / Concrete Finisher?
The Union Cement Mason is a trade specialist who installs and finishes all types of cement based products including concrete floors, pavements and formed surfaces. The cement mason is trained to install special architectural finishes such as imprinted, coloured, exposed aggregate and polished concrete too.
Cement Masons work as part of a specialized team throughout the day and night to produce high quality floors using motorized buggies, laser guided screed machines and ride-on trowel machines. As a Cement Mason, you will learn all aspects of concrete floor and pavement construction including forming, placing, levelling, finishing, curing and jointing. Cement Masons sometimes even travel across Canada to finish special floors in industrial plants, warehouses, and hockey rinks.
The work of a cement finisher includes other types of work as well including: restoring old concrete, patching and repairing formed concrete surfaces, epoxy floor coating systems, joint caulking, and floor sealers. There is a great deal of variety in this trade.
Cement Mason’s work in a variety of building types and job sites across Ontario each day. This trade is one of the highest paying careers in construction including more work hours than any other trade. Most cement masons work for a single employer during their careers offering great stability of employment. If you are looking for a high paying career that allows you to be creative too, then concrete finishing is for you!”
