What does an Ironworker do?
Ironworkers help put up buildings, bridges and other structures. Welding and fabricating, reading and interpreting blueprints and diagrams are a big part of an Ironworkers job. They also hoist and install structural steel, pre-cast concrete, reinforcing materials and other metals, during building. They position steel girders or other structural elements and bolt them into place. Ironworkers must also calculate weight for cable rigging, and set up scaffold/rigging. They are also involved in framing interior walls, concrete floors and ceilings, and assembling of pre-fabricated buildings.
