What does a Roofer do?

A roofer installs, repairs and replaces roofing systems, including conventional, inverted built-up, single-ply and two-ply modified. They also perform damp, water and weather- proofing along with installing and repairing slate, tile and shingles and resurfacing roofs.

A roofer reads and interprets drawings, specifications and manuals, examines and inspects roofs and roof surfaces. They document and inform employer/co-workers of roof conditions using sketches and diagrams. They also set up manual and power hoists, determining the weight of the load and use hand signals during lift processes. Roofers also select, set up, maintain, and operate hand/power tools and equipment, and must be in good physical condition.
